Since June 2022, 91 nurses from hospitals within the European University Hospital Alliance (EUHA) have had the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences through the EUHA Focus Visits initiative. During these study visits, nurses shadow their colleagues at another university hospital, gaining unique insights into different care practices and methods.

Empowering the Profession and Future-Proofing Healthcare

The EUHA Nursing Network brings together nurse representatives from all member countries with the goal of strengthening and advancing the nursing profession. By highlighting the profession’s autonomy, academic foundation, and appeal, the network works toward a long-term, sustainable, and future-ready workforce. At the same time, it drives innovation and elevates the role of nurses in shaping European healthcare policy.

One of the network’s most impactful initiatives is Focus Visits—a program that gives nurses from EUHA hospitals the chance to experience day-to-day clinical work at a partner hospital. By shadowing local colleagues, participants gain firsthand insights into new workflows, routines, and solutions that can help drive improvements in their own organizations.

Insights from IRCCS San Raffaele

In the video below, Lizzy Mårtenson, Head of Nursing Development at Emergency & Reparative Medicine Theme, and Anna Falk, ICU nurse at Thoracic surgery and thoracic intensive care, share their experiences from their visit to IRCCS San Raffaele in November 2024. They reflect on the valuable insights they gained, how the visit enriched their professional growth, and why international collaboration between our hospitals is so essential.
