In a world where technology is reshaping health care, Karolinska University Hospital has earned its place among the global frontrunners, ranking 13th on this prestigious list. The ranking, now in its fourth year, celebrates 350 hospitals across 28 countries for their leadership in adopting cutting-edge medical technology.

From telehealth services facilitating 24/7 patient-provider communication to breakthroughs in AI, robotics, and digital imaging, these hospitals are revolutionizing care delivery. According to Statista, an estimated 116 million virtual doctor consultations will take place in 2024, further underscoring the rapid shift toward tech-driven care.

Karolinska University Hospital stands out particularly for its use of artificial intelligence in diagnostics and treatment, according to the publication.

“I am proud that Karolinska University Hospital continues to rank among the world’s most innovative hospitals. Our swift implementation of AI, robotics, and other new technologies in healthcare means that technological advancements are quickly translating into tangible benefits for our patients,” says Patrik Rossi, acting CEO at Karolinska University Hospital.

“These rankings are not an exact science, and one should be cautious about drawing too many conclusions from the precise position. However, we often say that as a university hospital, it is our mission to be early adopters, evaluators, and developers of new technology in healthcare, and the fact that we repeatedly rank high suggests we are doing quite well in fulfilling that mission. But we can't rest on our laurels; we can do even better,” says Olof Akre, Director of Research and Development at Karolinska University Hospital.

The list is topped by Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA. Charité University Hospital in Berlin, Germany, is ranked the best in Europe at eighth place. Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark holds the highest ranking in the Nordics, at 12th place.
